The Hairdressing Council is doing everything they can to support the salons and employees during this very uncertain time. We are in the process of writing the TD’s in relation to the rent protection.
Please see below the letter from the President that will be sent in the coming week:
Dear sir/madame
I’m writing to you today, to draw your attention, to an issue, that a lot of our members are encountering. Hair salons that have taken the hugely difficult, but civic-minded step, to close before the mandatory closing came into effect, are now finding that some landlords are chasing to collect rent which owners have no way of paying, with no income whatsoever coming in.
The Irish Hairdressing Council represents all sections of the hairdressing community, not just salon owners. However, unless this issue is addressed, a lot of salons and the workforces will be forced onto the Unemployment Register permanently.
It is of paramount importance that the government puts statutory measures in place to protect salons who have already been hit, multiple times in the last eighteen months, with crippling decisions such as the 50% V.A.T. increase and the abolition of the Trainee Rates.
I ask you on behalf of the Council to act immediately to protect the hairdressing industry.
Thank You
Kind Regards
Sean Taaffe
President
Irish Hairdressing Council
