Dear Minister Harris,
I’m contacting you today on behalf of the Irish Hairdressing Council, we represent 1800 members around the country.
Firstly congratulations on doing an outstanding job in difficult times, it’s certainly not an easy task.
The reason I’m emailing you today is that the issue of PPE is a major concern for our members. We believe it’s the NSAI that has the responsibility of deciding on appropriate PPE equipment for hairdressers returning to work? Or the HSE ?
I’d ask that you please call on the relevant people within the government and the NSAI or HSE to firstly engage with us about this and also to advise us at the earliest opportunity of any thoughts or decisions so that we can advise our members.
We have a lot of wholesalers and suppliers contacting us as well , because if Ireland follows like Germany with the amount of PPE for both hairdressers and clients the demand will look upwards of 400,000 units per week which needs to be ordered now to avoid shortages whenever the return happens.
I thank you for taking the time to read this and I do appreciate the amount of correspondence you must be getting at this time, but hairdressing as an industry wants to do their part to halt the virus and in order to do that we need to be prepared.
Thank you
Kind regards
Sean Taaffe
